Raised in Fremont, California, Alicia Aldama was first introduced to photography at fourteen years of age. She bought her first 35mm film camera and fell in love with taking pictures. Over that same summer, she took her first black and white photography class at Ohlone College in Fremont. This is where she printed her very first photograph, and to this day she still has her first roll of film.

Some of Alicia’s influences include: Robert Frank, Gary Winogrand, Lee Friedlander, Jim Goldberg, Robert Mapplethorpe, Cindy Sherman, and Imogen Cunningham. Alicia has also given back to the community through her volunteer work. Rebuilding Together the Peninsula, Left Coast Live, and Paper Girl SF are some events that she has been apart of.

Societal issues inspire much of the subject matter in her work. This is evident in her self-portrait work and the series Meet Me at First Street. Alicia enjoys working collaboratively with her subjects to ensure a true and honest portrayal of their lives. She also believes in sharing her talent in photography with others who simply cannot afford to have their photo taken.

Alicia has received an AA in Professional Photography at De Anza College and a Bachelor in Fine Art Photography from San José State University in San José, California.
